After a year out of competitive floorball it was never a formality that the Grrrowl would have all their familiar faces back in the line up when they returned.
The club however is delighted to announce that 9 Glenrothes players who finished season 2006/07 with the club have already confirmed their intention to represent the Grrrowl in their comeback year.
Coach Kevin Blyth is delighted to be back with 8 long time team-mates and has praised their loyalty; ‘I didn’t doubt for a minute that the boys who’ve come back would do so. Seven of us played for other clubs in our year out but none of us even had to think twice about where we would be playing this year. These are the sort of players this club is all about.’
The returnees are as follows;
On defence….
No.11 Alan Campbell- one of the leagues top defenders has been persuaded out of retirement. A key player who would have been almost impossible to replace- certainly would have been hard to get someone to have fitted into his shirt!
No.19 Stevie Barrie- expect to see Stevie in a more defensive role this season. A team player who will perform any role asked of him to the best of his abilities. Stevie played for Forth last season and performed well scoring 8 + 5 in 16 league and Xmas cup games.
No.23 Neil Fair- rock solid defender who’s always liable to get his fair share of goals. Played for Hawick last season and got 5 + 3 in 17 games, including a goal in the final of the teams victorious Xmas Cup campaign. Neil also contributed an impressive 4 +10 in 18 league games in 2006/07.
No.24 Nick Cunningham- another solid campaigner who played a key role in our championship winning team. Nick took a year out last season but is raring to go this season. Stay at home defender who’s commitment to hair care is second to none!
No.66 Alan Varney- Glenrothes just wouldn’t be the same without ‘Reg’ in the line up. Goals have been harder to come by in the last year or two but nobody can doubt Reg’s ability. Like Stevie, Reg is more likely to line up on ‘d’ this season and if practice is anything to go by he’ll cope admirably and should be a big threat with his heavy shot from the point.
And up front…
No.10 Richard Howes- Richie played 10 games for Hawick last season scoring 16 + 7 and playing his part in their Xmas Cup win. Was Grrrowls 2nd top points scorer in 2006/07 with 26 +10 in 18 league games and is hoping to play back in his favoured left wing position this season.
No.15 Craig Savage- ‘Sav’ is undoubtedly one of the games top young talents. Still only 21 with his best years ahead of him he centred Balwearie Thunder’s 1st line last season and tallied 13+ 4 in 14 games, an improvement on his 8 + 3 from 18 league games in 2006/07. Further improvement is expected this season.
No.20 Tang Sinclair- Tang is the team’s unsung hero but his efforts are much appreciated by his team-mates. Not a big goal scorer but averaged a point a game in 2006/07 (3 + 9 in 12 games). Grrrowl are hoping work commitments allow Tang to play as many games as possible this season.
No 27 Kevin Blyth- GB international, top Northern League point scorer 3 times on the trot between 2004 and 2007. Captained and coached the team to the title in 2007 and scored 20 + 18 – strangely not enough for any league individual award, but more than enough to get the respect of his team-mates. Never missed a competitive game for Glenrothes in our entire history but ironically missed a big chunk of last season through injury whilst playing for Hawick. Still managed 10 + 13 in 12 games (some on defence). |
